What Yoga Nidra is
Yoga Nidra is a guided practice of deep rest. You lie down, supported by props or just a folded blanket. Your body stays still while your awareness moves slowly, gently, through the body, the breath, and a series of subtle attention cues.
Forty-five minutes of guided rest is closer to three hours of sleep, in some studies. The bigger gift, though, is what it does to your relationship with rushing.
What a session looks like
- A short check-in and a settle.
- Props to support your body so it can fully let go.
- Forty minutes of guided practice — body sensing, breath awareness, gentle visualisation.
- A slow return.
You don't need to do anything. You don't need to fall asleep. You don't even need to follow every instruction. The body knows.
Who Yoga Nidra helps
- People with insomnia, or who wake at 3am.
- People recovering from illness or burnout.
- People for whom sitting still has been impossible.
- People who don't sleep well in early parenthood.
